Moules Frites (Mussels and French Fries) Recipe
Jump to recipe
This weekend, we were really craving seafood so we stopped by our favourite seafood market – Diana’s Seafood! This is the place we go to for the freshest seafood – they have the best selection and all of their staff are well versed on their products. They even offer a fish cleaning service too which is nice! We left with some fresh mussels and came home to make this moules frites recipe.
Mussels are pretty easy to make. We also had some leftover white wine and thought it would be perfect to cook with for our risotto and Moule-Frites dish. We got a bit lazy with the fries and just decided to buy store bought ones opposed to making them from scratch – it just saved us so much time.

Moules-Frites (Mussels and French Fries) Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 shallot, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 1 lbs mussels
- 1 cup dry white wine
- 1/4 cup chopped parsley
- 1 tomato, diced
- 1/8 tsp saffron (optional)
- 1 tbsp butter
- salt & pepper to taste
Instructions
- 1. First, ensure all your mussels are cleaned. Scrub them with a brush to remove excess dirt under cold running water and discard any mussels that are open as this suggests they are dead. Remove excess beard as well.
- 2. In a large dutch oven/pot over medium high heat, cook the shallots and garlic in extra virgin olive oil until translucent/fragrant.
- 3. Add in white wine, parsley, tomato, and saffron and bring to a boil. Immediately add in mussels and put the lid on and reduce to medium heat and cook for approximately 5 minutes or until the mussels have opened. Finally, add in the butter and parsley and stir to combine. Season the broth with salt and pepper accordingly to taste. Serve with some fresh fries 🙂
